Grid+
Next-generation curvilinear grid building, built for EFDC+
Grid+ Overview
What is Grid+?
Grid+ is a next-generation grid building tool and the successor to CVLGrid. Redesigned from the ground up, it makes the grid-building process faster, more intuitive, and robust enough to handle even the most challenging waterbodies. Fully integrated into EEMS, users can move seamlessly between grid building and model execution within a single environment.
Build Complex Grids Quickly
Grid+ is built for scale and complexity. Whether you’re modeling the Amazon River, the San Joaquin–Sacramento River Delta, or any other demanding waterbody, Grid+ delivers — supporting highly complex configurations and grids exceeding half a million cells.
Grid+ in Action
The legacy CVLGrid interface — Grid+ is its modern successor.
Kodiak Airport Expansion — tide calibration grid built with Grid+.
Optimized for EE & EFDC+
Purpose-built for EE and EFDC+, Grid+ can be launched directly from the EE GUI and supports the creation of model input files without leaving the interface. Compared to CVLGrid, it introduces online background maps, improved orthogonalization routines, and direct download of online bathymetry data.
EE GUI Integration
Grid+ can be launched directly from within the EE GUI and generates model input files without ever leaving the interface.
Online Background Maps
A significant modern enhancement over CVLGrid — Grid+ includes online background maps, designed to reduce setup time and improve grid quality.
Bathymetry & Orthogonalization
Improved orthogonalization routines and direct access to online bathymetry data — all designed to reduce setup time and improve grid quality.
Support for Other Popular Hydrodynamic Models
Grid+ is also available as a standalone tool, supporting grid generation for other widely used hydrodynamic models including ECOM, CH3D, and DELFT3D — all of which require 2D curvilinear orthogonal or Cartesian grids.
